If you are visiting Little Saxham for the first time, the chances are you'll be approaching from the west, along the A14. The signposting doesn't help, as it just says 'Saxham'. Of course there's no such place as Saxham. There's Little Saxham - and Great Saxham - but no Saxham. The confusion is probably caused by the existence of the Saxham Business Park, which lies almost entirely within the parish of Little Saxham.
So, exit from the A14 at the sign, 'Saxham, Risby' and follow the former A45 for nearly a mile as it runs parallel to the A14. You'll pass the White Horse pub and the 'Yorkies' transport cafe, both of which are now in Risby.
Just before the road re-emerges on to the A14, take a left towards Risby. Almost immediately, turn right and go over the A14 via the bridge. The road winds back towards the westbound carriageway, but don't follow the sign to Newmarket, otherwise you'll be back on the A14, facing the wrong way! Continue past the Calor Gas factory and follow the road as it bends 90 degrees to the right, with the Claas factory on your left.
Under the railway bridge (which is where the station used to be) and follow the road as it bends first left, then right before passing Honey Hill Farm and stables on the right. A further half-mile takes you to a T-junction. Right in front of you, probably hidden in the trees, is St Nicholas Church. If you turn right here, you'll soon be in Great Saxham. Turn left and almost immediately you will be in the centre of the village.
The road twists to the right almost immediately and you have the choice of continuing to the left towards Bury St Edmunds, or straight ahead towards Hargrave and Chevington. The church is now on your right. You've made it. You're in Little Saxham. But stay awhile, because you'll soon be out of the village if you carry on along either road.
Grouped around the heart of the village are most of the houses in Little Saxham. The Old Rectory, Smallwood House, Manzold House, Church Cottages, St Nicholas House, Lodge Farm, Field Place, to name some.
Have a look at the village map to get your bearings.
